The wise say that ‘eyes are the windows to the soul’. Eyes are very important for survival. But how do eyes and vision work? When light reflects from an object and enters our eyes, it creates an image of that object on our retina with the help of our pupils. The best part is, the image is created upside down. Now imagine seeing your loved ones upside down. Funny, right? However, thanks to our brain, it has the wisdcom to re-orient the image and rotate it back to its normal state.

This results in vision and being able to see the object as it is. All this happens faster than the speed of light. What a masterpiece by nature! And we still manage to easily neglect this gift, not taking too much care.

Now, when no lights reach your eyes, no images form. That’s why you don't see anything in the dark. However, there can be other reasons for this too - natural or medical.

Only a person without eyesight understands its importance. Like Mrs Mali, she has been blind for nearly 34 years. A mystery illness robbed her of her vision. Since then, she has been missing out on the best moments of her life. All this just because of an ailment that could have been easily treated had the resources been made available. Her family's poor financial condition added to her suffering and deprived her of any treatment for years. Today, because of our efforts at Vision Care, Mrs Mali can see the world again. We, at Vision Care, will never forget the emotions of immense gratitude and happiness on her face.

Speaking about our location, there is a striking contrast between the urban and rural areas of Maharashtra. Where urban areas thrive in their cosmopolitan attitude, rural Maharashtra struggles to meet its basic requirements. In such a scenario, getting quality medical care is a distant dream for rural locals. And, if you have lost your vision due to illness or other reasons, to be able to get back your vision, continues to remain a distant dream in rural Maharashtra.

Being born and brought up in the rural farmlands of Maharashtra, Dr Swapnil Bhalekar - Director of Vision Care - was no stranger to the fact that his people lacked the basic medical facilities. Especially, in terms of eye care, the facilities were appalling. Many people were blind for years just because of some minor ailments that can be easily treated. The comforts of the urban landscape seemed far distant for the rural people of Maharashtra.

He was deeply affected by the suffering people endured in rural areas, hence, he decided to use his expertise for the service of the less privileged people of Maharashtra. And his tireless efforts resulted in the foundation of VISION CARE CENTER, the largest super speciality eye hospital in Shirur, with an aim to make the highest quality of treatment available to all people of rural Maharashtra.

Today, that expression of gratitude and fulfilment on Mrs Mali’s face is what Vision Care is all about. This is what drives us to strive tirelessly for the service of the rural and less privileged people of rural Maharashtra.
